New Bohemians: THE STRAIGHT SHOOTER
Photography by Tom Winchester

Name: Jonathan Carroll
Occupation: Still life photographer
Years in New York: Five.

What brought you to New York? A car and the School of Visual Arts.
What do you love about the city? Someone’s always awake.
What do you hate? I'm always awake...
What’s your definition of a New Yorker? A non-stop worker. People put in a lot of hours in this city.
Best or worse New York moment? The black out of 2003 was pretty awesome and horrible at the same time. I was interning at Stuff and it was fun while we drank and laughed. But eight hours of sitting on the sidewalk outside of Penn station drinking little cups of water from the Red Cross really sucked.
What three things are you addicted to right now? Graphic novels, the Legends of Kesmai, and botanicals.
What one New York job would you want to do, if you weren't who you are? I'd like to drive the train. But just once.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Represented by an agency and freelancing often.
If God were an animal, what would it be? Bigfoot. They've been seen about the same amount of times, and nobody ever listens.
What do you think the difference is between faith and religion? Faith is a strong inner feeling of trust that one has in another being. Religion is the belief in a supernatural being, which usually comes with a set of rules on how to govern ones life.
