Community: Business Profile: Dandelion Wine

dandelion wine

Brooklyn, home to many delightful boutiques, bakeries and markets, happily includes Dandelion Wine in its trove of venerable stores. Located at 153 Franklin Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Dandelion Wine offers a unique selection of wine at affordable prices. Selling bottles from around the world, the folks at Dandelion make an effort to seek out the best and rarest bottles. As their owner Lily explains, they look for wine with a story. Whether it is a bottle from a small producer, a young wine-maker experimenting with flavor, or a generations-old family business, all these things lend character and depth to the bottles they purchase.

The knowledgeable staff members at Dandelion are happy to answer questions, make recommendations or help you with your selection. Looking for a winter red? Rhone, Rioja, Malbec and Washington State Reds are just a few of their recommendations this season. Want to get the most bang for your buck? Try a 2007 bottle of Strong Arms Shiraz from Australia. At $14, this full-bodied wine is jammy, ripe and spicy with rich blackberry notes and a hint of licorice. Affordable and beautifully packaged, Strong Arms Shiraz pairs well with red meat, Tomme-style cheeses and dark chocolate.

Free wine tastings take place every Friday evening from 6-9pm- a great opportunity to taste new wines and find the perfect bottle. Join their mailing list for information by sending an email to dandelionwineyc@gmail.com. Additionally, Dandelion Wine will be offering wine, cheese and beer classes starting in 2010! For more information send an email to brooklynfermented@gmail.com.
