KNOWN IN NEW YORK BECAUSE…: Goldin moved to New York following graduation from Tufts to pursue documentary photography. She documented various underbelly scenes around New York and collaborated with several artists in the post punk new wave music scene.
THE SCENE: She documented the post-punk new wave music scene as well as the city’s vibrant post-Stonewall gay subculture of the 1970s. She was drawn to the Bowery’s hard drug subculture as well. The themes of her photographs range from love, sex, gender, dependency, addiction and domesticity.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Her amazing work and her ability to create something beautiful out of something that’s not.
