WOODY ALLEN

NAME: Woody Allen, Born Allen Stewart Konigsberg

OCCUPATION: Screenwriter, director, actor, comedian, writer, musician, and playwright

HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, New York

YEARS IN NEW YORK: 73

KNOWN IN NEW YORK BECAUSE…: Allen is quintessential New York, his films and humor are rooted in old Jewish-Brooklyn-New York-esque themes. His visual representations of the city itself epitomize what so many of us find intriguing, lovable, questionable and difficult about this place. Also known for leaving lover Mia Farrow for her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. Scandalous…

THE SCENE: Allen’s scene has shifted over his several decades of work. His muses have ranged from Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Muriel Hemingway, to Scarlet Johansson. Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters.

WHY WE LOVE HIM: He is able to capture the feeling of New York relationships, characters and every day living in his writing and films.
